Cultural Visit to El Escorial

Saturday, September 10th from 9:30 to 19:00

The cultural visit, which you can select at registration for 50€ per (adult) person, to El Escorial includes:

  • Transportation (buses will take us from and to the main venue),
  • a small (voluntary) hike to the Silla de Felipe II (where a nice view of the monastery can be enjoyed),
  • an appetizer after the hike (some tortilla and refreshments, including beer),
  • food at a renowned restaurant (see below),
  • and a small visit to the Monastery.

The visit will be family-friendly. Gregorio, the General Chair, will bring the whole family (wife + two kids) with him. If you come with your family, put yourself in contact with him (grex@gsyc.urjc.es).

The Royal Site of San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Spanish: Monasterio y Sitio de El Escorial en Madrid), commonly known as El Escorial, is a historical residence of the King of Spain, in the town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, about 45 kilometres (28 miles) northwest of the capital, Madrid, in Spain. It is one of the Spanish royal sites and has functioned as a monastery, basilica, royal palace, pantheon, library, museum, university, school and hospital. It is situated 2.06 km (1.28 mi) up the valley (4.1 km [2.5 mi] road distance) from the town of El Escorial. (Source: Wikipedia)

Lunch will be at the Mesón La Cueva, a restaurant located in an old mansion of the eighteenth century (1768), in the center of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a few meters from the monastery. The function of said house from its origins was that of inn for travelers and court personnel in the seasons in which the king moved to the monastery.
